Description Vigil's End is a literary, engaging, intelligently written, epic scale future drama about us, all of humankind, and our ultimate destiny in the Universe--and the role of the Universe itself. The work will appeal to serious readers seeking logic and plausible extensions of science in the entertaining portrayal of a futuristic drama. Vigil's End is Book One, the central work, of the projected book series, The Ninth Day, that spans a millennium, from the inevitable, catastrophic end of our World and all life on it, to the determination of whether the Legend of Man includes a Ninth Day. Vigil's End begins in 2881 in Sanctuary, deep in the womb of the Earth, six hundred years after a rogue belt of asteroids inflicted devastating, fatal wounds to the surface of the planet, enveloping Earth in a toxic winter shroud, killing all life. But, with a forty-year forewarning, Sanctuary had been constructed by a world international accord to save one hundred thousand people of the seven billion world inhabitants for a hundred years or more, so they might re-emerge when-- if the surface regenerated itself. Sanctuary did work, for fifty years, until 2305, when a deadly virus brought inside by a surface expedition killed all of Sanctuary's human population. Not a single human life was spared. But, Samuel, an early humanoid serving Sanctuary, was given one final instruction by `Joe', a human Master. Now, it's 2881, and Samuel is prepared to complete his charge from Joe, to determine if the legend of Man has a Ninth Day. Author
